Poland Crypto Bill Blocked Amid Regulatory Deadlock
Poland's crypto bill remains stalled after lawmakers failed to override President Karol Nawrocki's veto. The proposal aimed to regulate the country's cryptocurrency market and establish a domestic licensing system under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA.
The Sejm voted 241-198 in favor of overriding the veto, but fell short of the required three-fifths majority by 25 votes. This leaves Poland without a fully functioning framework for crypto firms seeking authorization at home.
With around 2,000 Polish crypto firms potentially needing to seek MiCA authorization elsewhere, the country's regulatory deadlock continues to impact its virtual asset service providers. The lack of a domestic licensing system also affects companies' ability to provide services across the EU and other associated countries.
