Polish Lawmakers Revive Crypto Regulation Bill Amid Industry Skepticism
Poland's lawmakers are reviving their efforts to create comprehensive cryptocurrency regulations after failing to override President Andrzej Duda's veto on a previous bill. The new proposal aims to establish clear guidelines for the use of cryptocurrencies in Poland, including taxation and consumer protection.
The original bill, which was put forward by the Polish government last year, included provisions for a tax on cryptocurrency transactions and requirements for exchanges to obtain licenses from the Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). However, President Duda vetoed the legislation, citing concerns over its potential impact on Poland's economic competitiveness.
Lawmakers have since revised the bill in an attempt to address the president's concerns. The new version includes some changes to the tax provisions and introduces additional safeguards for consumers. While some industry stakeholders have expressed support for the revised bill, others remain skeptical about its effectiveness in regulating the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency market.
