Polish Parliament Fails Again to Overturn Crypto Bill Veto Amid Corruption Scandal
Poland's Sejm has failed to override President Karol Nawrocki's veto on the Crypto-Asset Market Act for the third time. The act aims to regulate the country's cryptocurrency market, but its implementation has been marred by controversy.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk called for a revision of the law, citing concerns over its impact on Polish citizens' freedom and stability. However, the Sejm's vote fell short of the 266 votes needed to overturn Nawrocki's veto, with only 241 in favor.
The failed initiative comes amid an ongoing corruption probe involving government officials connected to Zondacrypto, a national exchange that allegedly stole up to $94 million from customer funds. Tusk accused Nawrocki's party representatives of colluding with Zondacrypto and turning its former CEO, Przemysław Kral, into a local celebrity.
The Polish Olympic Committee President Radosław Piesiewicz was detained in connection with the investigation. The incident has highlighted concerns over corruption and regulatory oversight in the country's cryptocurrency industry.
