Polish Parliament Fails to Override Crypto Veto Amid Corruption Scandal

Poland's crypto regulatory battle continues as the country's parliament failed to override President Karol Nawrocki's veto on the Crypto-Asset Market Act. The Sejm, the lower house of Poland's parliament, required 266 votes to overturn the veto but only managed to secure 241.

The act in question would have implemented stricter regulations for crypto operators in line with the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework, a European Union-wide standard. Without the override, Polish crypto operators must now register their activities in other jurisdictions before operating.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk called for a revision of the act last month and pushed for a vote after adding the issue to the Sejm's working agenda. However, President Nawrocki vetoed the act three times, citing concerns over its impact on Polish citizens' freedom and stability.
