Polkadot's Top Holders Control Over Two-Thirds of Token Supply
Polkadot (DOT) has a significant concentration of its token supply in the hands of a relatively small number of large holders. According to data from CryptoRank, the top 100 wallets control a staggering 64.05% of the total 15.99M token supply. This means that just over 217,000 unique wallet addresses hold Polkadot tokens.
The largest 1-5 wallets alone account for 29.6% of the total supply, while the top 11-25 wallets control 13.7%. In contrast, the bottom 90% of holders own only a tiny fraction, with over 36% of the supply outside of the top 100 wallets.
The distribution of Polkadot tokens is also notable for its lack of diversity among large holders. The 'whale' category, which refers to the largest 750 wallets, holds an impressive 0.03% of the total supply. This concentration has raised concerns about the potential for market manipulation and volatility.
