Coinbase has come under fire from some members of the Ethereum community over its handling of Ether transactions, but Jesse Pollak, creator of Base, a layer-2 network built on top of Ethereum, is defending the exchange.

Pollak argued that Coinbase's role in the Ethereum ecosystem extends far beyond its trading activity and that the company should be considered one of Ethereum's largest non-DAT holders of Ether. He pointed out that Coinbase has held approximately 150,000 ETH for years through multiple market fluctuations.

Pollak emphasized that Base is built on top of Ethereum technology and provides infrastructure for decentralized applications and transactions while leveraging Ethereum as its underlying settlement network. He argued that criticism of Coinbase should take into account the company's broader involvement with Ethereum rather than focusing solely on transactions involving ETH.
