Poltava Duo Accused of Spying for Russia
A pair of individuals in Poltava, Ukraine have been detained for allegedly passing information about Ukrainian military and energy facilities to Russian representatives.
According to investigators, a 19-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man agreed in March 2026 to cooperate with Russian intelligence agencies in exchange for payment. They gathered and transmitted data on military units and critical infrastructure to their handlers using various methods, including cryptocurrency and Telegram.
The woman received payment for her tasks through cryptocurrency, which she converted to a bank card. The man used accounts under women's names, multiple phone numbers, and a crypto wallet to maintain secrecy.
During searches of the suspects' premises, authorities seized mobile phones, laptops, and bank cards used in their illicit activities. Both have been notified of their status as suspects under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
