Polygon Cuts Block Time to 1.75 Seconds, Boosts Capacity by 14%
Polygon (POL) has reduced its average block time to 1.75 seconds, marking the first such reduction since the network's genesis.
This change lifts theoretical throughput by roughly 14%, bringing the network's capacity to around 3,260 transactions per second, according to Lucca Martins, a Polygon software engineer.
The shorter block times will help clear transaction backlogs faster, which is particularly important for high-frequency activities like stablecoin transfers and decentralized finance trades.
Polygon has been working on increasing its capacity to meet the growing demand for stablecoins, with Adam Dossa, senior vice president of engineering at Polygon Labs, stating that the network aims to reach 5,000-10,000 transactions per second.
