Polygon Fixes Critical Security Flaws in Quiet Network Upgrades

Polygon Labs has quietly patched security vulnerabilities in its proof-of-stake network through two hard forks. The Austin fork addressed denial-of-service paths in block processing, while the Kyoto fork fixed a more severe flaw that could have forced costly, coordinated work across the entire validator set via a single crafted transaction.

The fixes were rolled out privately and validated on the Amoy testnet before mainnet activation, following standard practice for consensus-affecting fixes. Polygon stressed that none of the flaws were observed being exploited on mainnet and that all were resolved proactively.

The disclosures come as Polygon is completing its migration to a new network architecture, with its native token POL trading at around $0.09983 on Sunday, down 2.3% over 24 hours and 6.8% over the past week.
