Polygon's Crypto Donations Reach Nepal's Disaster Relief Fund
Polygon's Open Money Stack played a crucial role in enabling cryptocurrency donations to Nepal's Disaster Relief Fund after a devastating glacier collapse in August. The platform, launched by Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal on September 4, had already raised around $168,000 by its launch day.
The donation pipeline allows donors to send funds from various blockchains and converts them into USDC on either Ethereum or Polygon. This process is handled by Engage Nepal, a US 501(c)(3) organization led by Scott DeLisi, who previously served as US Ambassador to Nepal.
Partners Coinme and Cross River Bank facilitate the bridge between digital assets and traditional banking rails, ensuring the funds reach the government's relief account in local currency. The conversion process is transparent, with all donations landing in a public USDC wallet that anyone can audit on-chain.
