POSCO Tests Two Blockchains for Real Trade Finance Deals
South Korea's largest trading house, POSCO International, has successfully settled a real trade finance deal on the Avalanche blockchain. This is not the first time they've experimented with tokenizing live trade receivables, on July 27, 2026, they worked with LG CNS to do it on the Injective blockchain.
The latest transaction involved converting real trade receivables into digital tokens and selling them to Olea, a trade finance platform backed by Standard Chartered's venture arm SC Ventures. This was not a demo or test run, it used real money and actual invoices for steel shipments.
The Asian Development Bank estimates the global trade finance gap at around $2.5 trillion, which is the difference between what businesses need to keep goods moving and what banks are willing to lend. Tokenizing trade receivables could be a game-changer in this area.
POSCO International's decision to test two competing networks is significant, it shows they're not committed to one ecosystem out of loyalty or hype, but rather shopping for the best infrastructure that performs and settles cheaply.
