Post-Quantum Security Tech Emerges for Existing Crypto Wallets
American Fortress has proposed a new security technology that adds post-quantum protection to cryptocurrency wallets without changing their addresses or moving assets.
The approach, which builds on elliptic-curve cryptography, preserves existing wallet keys and seed phrase-based hierarchical deterministic wallets.
The company's technical paper, published on the Cryptology ePrint Archive, outlines a method that generates a zero-knowledge proof from an existing seed phrase to add an additional security layer. Network participants verify this proof while users continue to sign transactions with their existing private keys.
This technology has sparked interest in preparing for future quantum-computer attacks without replacing wallet structures. According to the company, up to $470 billion worth of Bitcoin could be exposed to attack if a sufficiently capable quantum computer emerges.
