PQ1: Freedom Factory's Quantum-Resistant Hardware Wallet Unveiled
The world's first hardware wallet built with post-quantum cryptographic capabilities has been unveiled by Freedom Factory. The PQ1 was launched on July 28, 2026, and is expected to start shipping in Q4 of that year for $179.
The device uses a hash-based digital signature scheme called SPHINCS+ to protect against quantum attacks. This approach relies on a different cryptographic method than traditional math problems that could be solved by quantum computers.
Additionally, the PQ1 supports ERC-4337 smart accounts and is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. It will allow users to interact with the blockchain through smart contract wallets rather than traditional externally owned accounts.
The entire thing is open-source, with every line of firmware code publicly auditable. A session on Ethereum Builders Live on July 29 will feature Freedom Factory CEO Michael Haas discussing the PQ1's security architecture and design philosophy.
