Premier League Ensnared in $13.5M Crypto Probe Involving Sorare
The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has frozen $13.5 million in funds linked to the Premier League as part of a criminal investigation into crypto gaming platform Sorare.
Sorare, which partnered with the Premier League in 2023 for a four-year deal worth $140 million, denies being involved in the inquiry.
The NCA is investigating possible links between Sorare's payments under the licensing deal and alleged criminal activity by third parties. The agency has frozen £10 million (around $13.5 million) held in a bank account linked to the Premier League.
Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia stated that the initial reports were 'inaccurate', adding that Sorare is not the subject of an investigation by the NCA and that the funds frozen do not belong to them.
