Primavera Pursues Venezuelan Oil Assets in US-Backed Restructuring

Share

Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam's investment firm Primavera is reportedly negotiating for three Venezuelan oil fields as part of a US-backed restructuring of energy assets. The move would place crypto-derived personal capital into a politically allocated commodity sector, without Coinbase or Paradigm involvement.

No agreement or asset transfer has been announced, and questions remain over the authority for granting long-term Venezuelan oil rights. Reuters reported on Sept. 2 that Primavera was among companies expected to sign Venezuelan energy agreements as soon as that day. Bloomberg attributed block-level details to unnamed sources familiar with nonpublic talks.

Primavera's pursuit of three fields operated by Alvorada Heavy Industries in the Boca, Guico, and Guara blocks of the Orinoco Belt has raised questions about how capital built in crypto can move into politically allocated hard assets. An executed agreement would determine whether this pursuit becomes operational control.
