Privacy Coins Refuse to Die as Firo and Zano Defy Regulatory Pressure

Share

The resurgence of Firo (FIRO) and Zano (ZANO), two highly advanced privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, has captured attention in May 2026.

Firo surged by more than 12% over the past 24 hours, while Zano holds a market capitalization of around $178 million, both appearing on CoinGecko's trending list at a time when global regulators are intensifying pressure on the entire privacy coin sector.

The convergence of price momentum and regulatory headwinds makes this one of the most contentious narratives in crypto right now.

Firo, formerly known as Zcoin, was launched in 2016 with its core innovation being the original implementation of the Zerocoin protocol. It has since migrated through Sigma to its current flagship privacy mechanism, Lelantus Spark.

Lelantus Spark enables confidential transactions with hidden amounts and addresses while avoiding the trusted setup requirement that has historically plagued certain zero-knowledge systems.
