Privacy Coins Roar Back with 213% Surge Amid Broader Crypto Decline
The crypto market has seen significant gains in 2026, but one sector stands out from the rest: privacy coins. According to Glassnode data, these assets have surged 213% since Bitcoin's October 2025 peak, making them the only sector in Glassnode's classification system trading above those levels.
While most other sectors are underwater, with Bitcoin down 36% and the median top-200 asset falling by 58%, privacy coins have quadrupled their market capitalization in a year. The total market cap of these assets among the top 200 has ballooned from $7.1 billion to $33.6 billion over the past twelve months.
One standout performer is Zcash, which has delivered a 2,496% return year-to-date and now accounts for approximately 62% of the entire privacy sector's market capitalization. Even excluding ZEC entirely, a market-cap-weighted portfolio of the remaining privacy assets has posted an 85% gain over the past year.
