Privacy Tokens Dominate Crypto Market Recovery
The crypto market has seen significant gains across various sectors in recent times, but one segment stands out from the rest: privacy tokens. According to a report by Glassnode, the privacy sector has surged an impressive 213% since Bitcoin's October peak last year. This growth far surpasses other top crypto sectors, which remain below their all-time high levels.
Bitcoin itself is trading 36% below its all-time high levels, while DeFi is down 27%. Gaming fell the most with a decline of 74%, highlighting the immense popularity and value that privacy tokens have garnered in recent times. The report notes that despite a broad-based recovery over the past month, the gap has persisted, with all 10 sectors recording gains but privacy leading the market with a 90% surge.
The expansion of the privacy sector is not limited to its growth in price; it also reflects an increase in market size. The market capitalization of top 200 crypto assets based on their privacy features has climbed from $7.1 billion to $33.6 billion, putting them roughly on par with Tron (TRX). Almost half of this increase occurred over the past 30 days.
Zcash (ZEC) has been a driving force behind this expansion, climbing from 82nd place by market capitalization to seventh and dominating the index at 62% of its capitalization. Monero (XMR), the second-largest privacy asset, has also doubled over the same period.
