ProCap Repurchases Shares, Boosts Shareholder Bitcoin Exposure
Nasdaq-listed ProCap Financial has taken an unconventional approach to managing its Bitcoin holdings. By selling about 50 BTC, it was able to repurchase more than 2% of its common stock at a significant discount to net asset value.
As a result, each remaining shareholder now owns a larger portion of the company's treasury, which includes approximately 5,305 BTC and 86.8 million shares outstanding as of September 2.
The strategy is unusual because it reverses the typical approach used by Bitcoin treasury companies, which often issue stock when shares trade at a premium to accumulate more Bitcoin.
ProCap's chairman and chief executive, Anthony Pompliano, said the company intends to continue exploiting the gap between its market price and underlying asset value.
