Provably Fair Systems Give Crypto Casino Players Control Over Their Experience
Provably fair is a cryptographic verification system used in online casinos to ensure the integrity of game results. Unlike traditional licensed casinos, which rely on audits and licenses, provably fair systems give players control over their experience by allowing them to verify the fairness of each round. The model originated from early Bitcoin gambling sites around 2012 and has since become a standard feature in many crypto casinos.
The system works by combining three values: a server seed generated by the casino, a client seed chosen by the player, and a nonce that increments with each bet. These values are then hashed using SHA-256, producing a unique output. By publishing this hash before the game begins, the casino commits to its outcome, ensuring it cannot be altered after the fact.
Verification occurs when the player checks the commitment by hashing the revealed server seed and comparing it to the original published hash. If they match, the round is considered provably fair. This process can be repeated for each game result, giving players confidence in the fairness of their wins or losses.
