PubKey, a popular Bitcoin-centric dive bar in New York City and Washington, D.C., has temporarily halted its Bitcoin payment system until further notice. The announcement came via PubKey's official X account on August 7, with no explanation provided for the disruption.

The bar relies on Square's point-of-sale system to process Bitcoin transactions, which was rolled out in 2025. Whether the issue lies with Square's infrastructure or PubKey's integration remains unclear.

PubKey has historically processed about 7% of its transactions in Bitcoin, offering a 21% discount for customers who pay in Bitcoin as a nod to the cryptocurrency's hard cap of 21 million coins.
