Pump.fun Rides Dormant Whale and Buyback Surge
Pump.fun (PUMP) experienced a significant surge of 5.09% over the last 13 hours, primarily driven by the activity of a large dormant wallet and the platform's ongoing buyback-and-burn program.
A previously inactive wallet had been holding approximately 73.95 million PUMP on Bybit for nearly seven months before suddenly withdrawing this amount after a small test transaction. This event was interpreted as long-term holder repositioning, rather than an exit strategy, which triggered momentum traders and social trading groups to pile in.
The platform's buyback-and-burn program, supported by fee revenue, reduces circulating supply and strengthens tokenomics, mechanically supporting price over time. The Coinpedia analysis noted that between June 12 and August 3, PUMP's price rose from $0.0014 to $0.0021 while Pump.fun revenue climbed from approximately $678,000 to $1.64 million.
A short-term technical breakout above a prior downtrend also contributed to the move, with PUMP printing higher highs and higher lows while holding above short-term moving averages. Multiple trading accounts on X shared identical trade plans for PUMP, citing entries around the $0.0021 level and multi-step upside targets in the $0.0025 to $0.0030 region.
