Pump.fun Sees Surge in Meme Coin Activity Amid Year-End Speculation
The Pump.fun platform has seen a surge in activity, with over 25,000 new meme coins created on December 2. This marks the highest single-day count since mid-September and suggests that retail investors are returning to high-risk meme coin speculation as the year closes.
Data from Dune shows that daily token creation on Pump.fun has been above 20,000 throughout December, with revenue and decentralized exchange volume down more than 80% compared to early 2025. Despite this, active wallet addresses have held steady at around 100,000 on average since August.
Michael Nadeau, founder of The DeFi Report, has noted that Pump.fun's user retention metrics are higher than those of traditional Web2 applications. In Week 4, Pump.fun achieved 12.4% retention, while in Week 8 it was at 11.4%. This suggests that the platform maintains user engagement despite reduced overall market activity and valuations.
Trader Daan Crypto Trades has noted that meme coins have outperformed major altcoins over the past two weeks, with Pump.fun ranking as the third-best performing category during the first week of December. However, he cautioned that this trend may not represent a long-term shift in market dynamics.
