Pump.fund's PUMP Token Surges Nearly 100% in August
Pump.fund's PUMP token has taken center stage in August, outshining more established and higher-valued coins. The Solana-based meme coin launchpad's official utility coin nearly doubled in value over the last month, clawing its way back to a $1 billion market capitalization.
According to a Financial Times report, Pump.fund was among the cryptocurrency projects that spent large amounts buying back their own tokens in 2026. This move, combined with a broader rotation into launchpad and memecoin infrastructure tokens, potentially acted as a bullish catalyst.
PUMP's advance overshadowed market heavyweights, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), which gained only 31% and 28%, respectively, over the last month. The token's surge in value was also notable, outperforming Dogecoin (DOGE) and Bitcoin's price increases of 18.39% and 23.81%, respectively.
Pump.fund's PUMP token was launched in July of last year and quickly jumped to an all-time high of $0.01214 before plummeting 63%. The token's recent surge has been attributed to its involvement in the Solana meme coin mania, which spawned several coins like PNUT, Fartcoin (FARTCOIN), and MooDeng (MOODENG).
