Pump.fun's Price Drops Amid Broader Altcoin Pullback and Sector Rotation
Pump.fun's (PUMP) price dropped by 6.5% over the last 9 hours, but this move is not unique to the token. Instead, it's part of a broader market trend where many altcoins and memecoins are experiencing a pullback.
This correction follows a sharp weekly rally for Pump.fun, which saw its price rise by around 67% alongside other high-flying tokens like Ethena's ENA, Aave, Stacks, and Official Trump. The token was one of the biggest decliners among last week's winners, dropping around 8-9% in 24 hours.
The decline is also attributed to a sector-level rotation from meme coins into real-world assets (RWAs) and tokenized assets. The RWA sector saw its market cap jump by 48.7% in 24 hours, driven largely by the listing of Figure Heloc on the Provenance blockchain.
There are no specific negative announcements or security incidents that can explain Pump.fun's price drop. Short-term traders may be positioning for a correction after a parabolic run, while others highlight the token's buybacks and cumulative burns, which have destroyed tens of billions of tokens already.
