PUMP Token Defies Unlock Event with 27% Price Surge
Pump.fun's PUMP token continued its upward trend, rising by 27% from its August 8 low to around $0.0028 on August 13, despite a significant unlock event of 6.875 billion tokens.
The token's price surge was largely driven by the platform's record weekly fees, which generated $10.03 million between August 3 and August 9, as well as increasing ecosystem volume, reaching $2.97 billion during the same period.
Under Pump.fun's current model, half of the protocol fees are used to purchase PUMP from the open market and burn the acquired tokens, which provided a recurring source of spot demand for the token.
However, the unlock event did pose some risk to the token's price, as it could have led to an increase in supply and potentially put downward pressure on the price. Nevertheless, PUMP was able to maintain its value near $0.0028 after the event.
