Purpose Stakes $80M in Ethereum, Signals Confidence in Crypto
Toronto-based Purpose Investments has made a significant move in the crypto space by staking $80 million in Ethereum, signaling its confidence in the long-term viability of the asset. The company, which manages Canada's largest crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF), has locked up 42,000 Ether (ETH) worth approximately $80 million into the Ethereum beacon chain deposit contract.
This transaction represents 36.6% of the ETH holdings in Purpose's spot Ether ETF, which currently holds roughly 114,900 ETH. By staking a significant portion of its ETF's holdings, Purpose Investments is generating additional returns for investors and demonstrating a practical use case for ETFs beyond simple price exposure.
The implications of this move are far-reaching, with the potential to influence other institutional players to follow suit. Staking reduces the circulating supply of ETH, potentially affecting price dynamics over time, and demonstrates a growing acceptance of staking as a legitimate investment strategy within traditional finance.
