Qualcomm Takes Flight as AWS Partnership Lifts Stock by 4%
Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) is making waves on Wall Street after announcing a major data center partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The chipmaker's stock surged by 4% despite most of the market heading lower. This significant jump comes as Qualcomm and AWS collaborate across multiple generations of customized silicon for AI systems.
The collaboration between the two tech giants is centered around AI infrastructure, with Qualcomm's power-efficient processing capabilities complementing AWS's comprehensive and secure AI ecosystem. The partnership also involves Amazon receiving warrants covering 25 million Qualcomm shares, which can be exercised at $161.26 per share, valued at approximately $4 billion if all warrants are used.
The deal is a significant milestone for Qualcomm, which has been shifting its focus from mobile processors to data center hardware. The company aims to reach $15 billion in data center sales by fiscal 2029 and is targeting the CPU market, which is expected to rise from $27 billion in 2025 to $60 billion by 2030.
