Quantum Breakthroughs Compromise Crypto Security, Experts Warn
Quantum computer breakthroughs pose a significant threat to the security of major blockchains, according to Christopher Smith, CEO and co-founder of Quantus Network. He warns that these breakthroughs could silently compromise cryptographic security, resulting in unexplained wallet thefts with no identifiable perpetrator or apparent compromise.
The risk threatens crypto and DeFi custody, token security, and adoption until quantum-resistant upgrades, key rotation, and protocol patches are deployed. This means that even if a user does not know they have been hacked, their assets could still be compromised.
Smith suggests that a string of unexplained wallet thefts may be the first sign that a quantum computer has compromised crypto security used in major blockchains.
