Quantum Computers May Break Bitcoin by 2028-2029, Warns Tom Lee
Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine (BMNR), has raised concerns about the potential threat of quantum computers to Bitcoin's cryptographic defenses. According to Lee, modern computing advances could render Bitcoin's existing protection mechanisms obsolete by 2028-2029.
Quantum computing uses qubits to process information in ways that could potentially solve complex mathematical problems much faster than classical computers. However, sufficiently powerful quantum computers could theoretically break the cryptographic algorithms used by Bitcoin, allowing attackers to forge signatures or access funds.
Lee noted that Ethereum and Solana are better protected against quantum risks due to their proactive approaches to future-proofing their protocols. While neither network has fully implemented quantum-safe measures yet, the industry as a whole is still in early stages of addressing these challenges.
