Quantum-Resistant Upgrades Fuel Bitcoin Surge Towards $80,000
Bitcoin has been steadily climbing back toward the $80,000 level in recent weeks, capping off a month marked by significant advancements in network security and monetary policy shifts. In addition to its price action, Bitcoin's total market value has also seen growth, reaching around $2.64 trillion at one point.
One notable development is the experimental quantum-resistant transaction executed on the mainnet by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy. This approach pairs hash-based one-time signatures with computational search techniques that bind authorization to a specific transaction, aiming to mitigate the threat of quantum computing to Bitcoin's cryptography.
The SHRINCS post-quantum signature scheme was also proposed by Blockstream researchers in a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal on August 27. Although it shrinks large hash-based signatures by roughly 13.23 times, its resulting format is still significantly larger than Bitcoin's existing signatures.
