Quantum Threat Lurks in the Shadows: Random Wallets Targeted Before Satoshi's Stash

Blockchain experts warn of an imminent quantum threat that could leave no trace. A new risk analysis by Quantus Network's co-founder, Christopher Smith, suggests that the first wave of attacks might target random wallets rather than Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin (BTC) stash.

The initial attack is likely to be subtle, with attackers obtaining private keys and draining wallets without compromising internal systems. This makes unusual activity harder to detect, allowing bad actors to disguise their operations as ordinary wallet drains.

According to Smith, the first wave might not target the $63 billion Satoshi-era stash but rather state and military systems, stablecoins on multiple networks, or other crypto assets. The attackers may aim to avoid setting off alarm bells by targeting hot wallets before going after Satoshi's coin.

Quantum-resistant solutions are being rolled out ahead of time, with Quantus building a network that will be resistant at launch. However, the experts warn that investors are weighing risks associated with bugs and malware, and billions are at risk if attacks don't have an initial trace to Q-day.
