Ravencoin Consensus Vulnerability Exposes Network to Forged Blocks
Ravencoin's mining validation code had a critical consensus vulnerability that was exploited starting from block height 4,487,776 on August 7, 2026. This allowed attackers to produce blocks without doing the required computational work, making it impossible for nodes running unpatched software to distinguish between valid and forged blocks.
The issue was discovered on August 11, but the project confirmed that the underlying flaw had been actively exploited for days before anyone caught it. The mining pool 2Miners shipped an emergency patch, version 4.6.1.1-hf1, which rejects forged blocks and locks in a checkpoint at block 4,487,775.
The price of RVN plummeted by around 19.1% to $0.00288, cutting its market capitalization to near $47.3 million. Upbit and Bitget suspended RVN deposits and withdrawals as the network issue spread.
