Ravencoin Crashes to New Low Amid Network Exploit
Ravencoin plummeted to an all-time low on Wednesday, falling by nearly 22% from its 24-hour high of $0.003529 to a price of $0.002754, according to CoinGecko.
This significant drop in value was triggered by an exploited consensus vulnerability that left several days' worth of transactions at risk and prompted exchanges to suspend RVN transfers.
The exploit caused vulnerable nodes on the network to accept invalid blocks, with the first known instance appearing at block height 4,487,776 on Friday. Similar invalid blocks appeared after the flaw was demonstrated on the mainnet, according to Ravencoin.
Mining pools 2Miners and RavenMiner, which control a majority of the network's hash rate, are building a competing chain that excludes the exploited branch from block height 4,487,776 onward. If this new chain becomes dominant, it could lead to a reorganization of the network spanning approximately three days.
Ravencoin warned that transactions confirmed after block height 4,487,775 may be reversed and will not automatically return to the mempool or be mined again. The project advised exchanges to halt deposits and withdrawals until the chain stabilizes, with Upbit and Bitget suspending RVN transfers in response.
