RBNZ Expected to Hike Interest Rates Again Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is expected to raise interest rates for the second consecutive meeting. On Wednesday, the central bank will announce its decision on the Official Cash Rate (OCR), with a 25 basis point hike from 2.50% to 2.75% anticipated.
The decision comes after July's hawkish move, which saw the RBNZ signal that further rate increases were likely at upcoming meetings. The central bank has maintained that some reduction in monetary stimulus is necessary to bring inflation back within its target range of 2%.
Economists expect a consensus decision this week, unlike the divided outcome predicted during the July meeting. The RBNZ's Monetary Policy Review (MPR) and Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) will also be closely watched for any signals on future rate hikes.
