RBNZ Policy Hinges on Broad Economic Trends
RBNZ Monetary Policy Committee member Carl Hansen stated that future policy moves depend on trends in various economic data sets. He emphasized that Wednesday's rate increase was a collective decision, and they will continue to monitor data for any surprises before making their next move in October.
Hansen mentioned that the bank is watching broad economic data sets, rather than relying on a single indicator. The current state of the NZD/USD pair shows it is up 0.51% at 0.5883.
The RBNZ's primary objectives are achieving and maintaining price stability by keeping inflation between 1% and 3%, as well as supporting maximum sustainable employment. Hansen noted that a tight labor market can fuel inflation, and the bank will aim to keep it at its maximum sustainable level.
