Record Stablecoin Reserves on Exchanges Reach $69 Billion
CryptoQuant contributor Crazzyblockk reported on December 29 that exchange-held stablecoin reserves have reached $69 billion, accounting for approximately 22% of the entire stablecoin market. Binance alone holds $49 billion, or roughly 71% of all exchange-based stablecoin capital, making it the largest single pool of deployable funds in cryptocurrency markets.
The top three exchanges, Binance, OKX, and Bybit, control about 94% of exchange stablecoin reserves. In December, $8 billion in stablecoins left exchanges during the month, with $3 billion from Bybit and around $2 billion from Binance. Despite these outflows, Binance still holds close to 15% of global stablecoin supply.
Crazzyblockk noted that on-chain activity dropped by about 40%, while whales accumulated around 20,000 BTC and futures open interest expanded by $2 billion. Analyst CW pointed out that retail traders and whales were buying simultaneously, particularly on Binance, although Ali Martinez warned the move could be another short-lived rebound due to negative capital flows and continued spot ETF outflows.
