Reform Party Lands Record-Breaking £72m Crypto Donations
Two cryptocurrency billionaires have donated £72m to the Reform party in less than 24 hours, sparking calls for stricter controls on political donations. The House of Commons has already backed measures capping overseas donations at £100,000.
Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform party, said he was 'humbled' by the donations from Christopher Harborne and Ben Deelo.
MPs and anti-corruption campaigners are now calling for a cap on all political donations to prevent what they see as an attempt to distort the next election. The £72m donation is significantly more than the current limit of £100,000 for overseas donations, which was recently approved by the House of Commons.
Some MPs argue that stricter controls are necessary to prevent wealthy individuals from influencing the outcome of elections. Others have expressed concern about the lack of transparency surrounding these large donations.
