Reform UK Defies New Donations Laws with £72m Crypto Windfall
Reform UK's £72 million in donations from cryptocurrency billionaires Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne is entirely in line with the law, according to Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick.
Jenrick said the party does not expect to return any of the money, which was donated in two days last month, setting a new record for the largest ever donation given to a UK political party.
The government is seeking to change the law on donations from British expats, including a £100,000 cap backdated to 25 March. However, Jenrick stated that the current and future laws allow the Reform UK's donations, which total more than the amount received by all UK political parties last year.
Reform UK has been under scrutiny over its fundraising efforts in recent months. The party's leader Nigel Farage is currently being investigated by the parliamentary standards commissioner for a £5 million gift he received from Harborne.
