Regulatory Delays Weigh on Bitcoin Price as CLARITY Act Stalls
Bitcoin's momentum has stalled at around $63,000 as regulatory setbacks in Washington and outflows from US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds weigh on market sentiment. The world's largest cryptocurrency had traded between roughly $62,670 and $63,310 during the session, but investors are contending with delays to proposed US digital asset legislation.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or CLARITY Act, is intended to establish a clearer regulatory structure for cryptocurrency markets in the US. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has indicated that lawmakers intend to return to the legislation in September, but the approaching November midterm elections leave a narrowing window for Congress to reach an agreement this year.
The SEC's cancellation of an open meeting scheduled for August 14, where commissioners were due to consider proposing a tailored offering regime for certain crypto assets, has also added to regulatory uncertainty. Institutional demand has softened, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs recording approximately $389.7 million in net outflows between August 10 and August 14.
