Revolut Axes USDT Support Amid EU Regulatory Pressure
Revolut, Europe's largest fintech with about 65 million users, is dropping support for Tether USDt (USDT) due to European Union regulations. The company will stop supporting USDT on August 31, 2026, and will automatically convert any leftover balances into each user's base fiat currency at the day's market rate.
The move follows the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, known as MiCA, which requires a fully licensed provider to offer stablecoins whose issuers have cleared the regulation's authorization requirements. Revolut secured its own MiCA license from Cyprus securities regulator CySEC in November 2025, but Tether has not sought similar approval for USDT.
USDT holders can keep buying the token until July 6, and Revolut will stop accepting new deposits on July 30. Any balance sitting in affected accounts past August 31 will convert into the account's base currency at the prevailing exchange rate.
