Revolut Clears Major Hurdle for U.S. Bank Charter with Conditional OCC Approval
Revolut has received conditional approval for its proposed U.S. bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a significant regulatory hurdle cleared in its push to establish a national bank in the United States.
The fintech company still needs final approvals from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve, and the OCC before it can launch the proposed bank in 2027. Revolut plans to offer deposits, loans, credit cards, and other banking services directly once regulators grant all necessary approvals.
The approval could significantly expand Revolut's role in the U.S. financial market by connecting traditional banking with stablecoins and cryptocurrencies. This would give American customers a broader financial platform through one provider.
Revolut already serves more than 80 million customers globally and is continuing to expand its international banking footprint, including recently launching banking operations in Mexico and securing banking licenses in France, Australia, and the United Kingdom during 2026.
