Revolut Enters Euro Stablecoin Market with EURR Launch
Revolut has launched its own euro stablecoin, EURR, designed to maintain a value of €1.00 and backed by reserves held and managed by Bridge Building S.A., an EU-licensed issuer.
The company began the phased rollout of EURR on August 26 in three European markets: Denmark, Poland, and Portugal. The token is available through both the retail app and Revolut X, its standalone exchange, with support for Ethereum and Polygon as launch networks.
Revolut's move comes a week before it removes USDT from its European app entirely, citing MiCA regulations that require large stablecoin issuers to hold at least 60% of reserves in EU bank deposits. The company plans to extend EURR across other EEA markets later this year and additional currency-denominated stablecoins through separate regulatory pathways.
With over 80 million customers and 16 million crypto users, Revolut's distribution advantage is significant, according to Emil Urmanshin, Head of Crypto and New Bets. He argues that combining global scale with licensed banking infrastructure unlocks utility 'that no traditional bank or crypto native can match.'
