Cybercriminals have breached Revolut's security, releasing personal identification documents and verification selfies of users, while demanding a ransom payment. The hackers claim to be escalating data releases daily unless their demands are met.
The breach is attributed to a sophisticated external impersonation scam where a malicious actor used an email account from a genuine government institution domain to file illegitimate information access requests. Revolut detected the unauthorized activity and promptly blocked the compromised email address, informing relevant authorities and affected customers.
The leaked data includes personal details, financial transaction logs, and cryptocurrency activity records, posing significant identity fraud risks for those whose information was exposed. Revolut maintains that its core infrastructure and client funds remain secure and untouched.
