Revolut, a digital banking platform, has fallen victim to an elaborate social engineering attack. Cybercriminals successfully obtained confidential customer information by posing as governmental authorities. The scam targeted approximately 680 users, exposing sensitive data including identity documents, financial records, and cryptocurrency transactions.

The threat actors dispatched a deceptive inquiry using an authentic government email account. Revolut, acting on what appeared to be a legitimate official request, disclosed the sensitive information. This included passport credentials, banking account identifiers, residential locations, verification photographs, government-issued identification cards, and Bitcoin transaction records.

The cybercriminals have extorted Revolut for 10,000 Bitcoin (approximately $780 million) with threats of ongoing data publication. The security incident may impact the company's forthcoming public offering, valued at around $200 billion. British regulators at the Information Commissioner's Office have initiated a formal probe into the matter.
