Revolut Launches EURR Euro Stablecoin in Three European Countries
Revolut has launched its own euro-pegged stablecoin, EURR, available inside the Revolut app and through the trading platform Revolut X. Currently, it's only accessible to selected customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal, with plans to expand across the entire European Economic Area (EEA) by the end of the year.
According to Revolut, EURR is designed to hold a value of 1.00 euro and is backed by reserves held and managed by Bridge Building S.A., the issuer, which is licensed as an electronic money institution and crypto-asset service provider in Luxembourg.
The token itself carries the brand name Revolut Euro, and users can redeem it at par at any time free of charge, subject to passing compliance checks and providing a valid EEA bank account with an IBAN. Bridge holds 374 tokens in circulation, backed by cash deposits at credit institutions, with plans to file recovery and redemption plans with the CSSF within six months.
Revolut's Head of Crypto, Emil Urmanshin, frames EURR as connecting 80 million customers directly to on-chain finance, combining the company's scale and licensed banking infrastructure with instant access to the crypto ecosystem. The fintech pairs the announcement with risk warnings, stating that stablecoins carry risks, cryptocurrencies are highly volatile, and there is a risk of total capital loss.
