Revolut Tests Euro Stablecoin Amid Digital Euro Development
Revolut has started testing its first euro stablecoin, EURR. The test run is currently taking place in three European markets: Denmark, Poland, and Portugal.
The ECB plans to launch a digital euro pilot for the second half of 2027, with possible issuance around 2029 if EU legislation is completed.
Revolut's EURR uses a different structure than the proposed digital euro. While EURR tracks €1 and initially runs on Ethereum, the digital euro would represent central bank money rather than a private issuer liability.
