Riot Locks in $9.1B AI Deal with Anthropic
Riot Platforms, a major player in the Bitcoin mining industry, has signed a massive deal with Anthropic PBC to supply AI data center capacity. The 20-year agreement is valued at $9.1 billion and will provide 191 megawatts of power from Riot's campus in Rockdale, Texas.
The deal marks a significant shift for Bitcoin miners, who are increasingly leveraging their energy-heavy infrastructure to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence workloads. Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, is looking to lock in enough computing power to serve its customers.
This trend reflects a wider move by mining companies to repurpose their existing power access and facilities to capture demand from AI firms racing to expand.
