Riot Platforms' Massive Crypto Facility Powers Texas Grid
Riot Platforms' Corsicana facility has been making waves in the crypto and energy sectors. In August, the facility provided 84,000 megawatt hours of energy to the Texas market to stabilize the grid during a heat wave.
This energy contribution prevented consumer disruptions and earned Riot approximately $7 million from the ERCOT ancillary services program. The company also sold $24 million of pre-purchased energy to TXU during that period.
The Corsicana facility has a total capacity of 1 GW, with a 400 MW substation powering its initial phase. Building A1 hosts the first batch of miners, which will reach 3.7 EH/s of capacity. By the end of 2024, CEO Jason Les expects to add 16 EH/s to the self-mining capacity, bringing the total to 31 EH/s.
