Riot Platforms May Release Up to 1,547 BTC as Bitcoin Price Surges
Riot Platforms is a mining company that borrowed $200 million from Coinbase in 2026. The loan was collateralized by 3,977 BTC, but when Bitcoin's price fell, Riot had to pledge an additional 1,825 BTC to meet the agreement.
Now, with Bitcoin's recent rally pushing its price above $78,000, Riot may be able to release some of that collateral. According to CryptoSlate's calculations, if the current balance of 5,821 BTC is not moved, the company could free up between 1,159 and 1,547 BTC.
The loan agreement has three schedules, each with different conditions for releasing collateral. The standard schedule requires an LTV below 50%, which Riot's current ratio of 44.1% comfortably meets. If the release is approved, Riot could add $90 million to $121 million worth of Bitcoin to its unrestricted pool.
